Our Archive is located in the Transport Building at the Newport Railway Workshops.

The Archive contains a large range of general paper files, Victorian Railways Publications and other books, maps, plans, and a collection of almost 95,000 photographs and slides; related to railways in Victoria; Documents date from the 1860’s to the present day.

Certain documents, such as individual employment records are not included in our collection, but may be accessed from the Public Records Office Victoria.

You may be pleasantly surprised however at what we can find for you.

We are currently working to create a full electronic catalogue of all holdings and our long term aim is to link the catalogue to digital image copies of all material held.

We welcome donations of material to the Archive.  Please contact the ARHS Archive as shown below and we will reply to you.

Because the Archive is located inside the secure area of Newport Workshops, visits are only by arrangement.

We can conduct searches for material on request.  If you wish us to do so, please complete and submit the Make an Archive Request form.

You can obtain the Make Archive Request form by clicking here:

Make Archive Request form.

Please complete the form and email or post it to the Archive.  Do not send a payment in advance; We will invoice you at the conclusion of a search.
