This book is the story of the first years of the Puffing Billy narrow gauge railway from Upper Ferntree Gully towards Gembrook.  The railway was closed after a landslide blocked the line but the Author convinced the Victorian Railways to run a a final day of operation by running trains between Upper Ferntree Gully and Belgrave.  A ‘Citizens Committee’ was formed and the Puffing Billy Preservation Society was formed.

The book tells the story of the next 10 years and tells the personal story of many who were involved in the restoring of the railway.  The line was reopened from Belgrave to Emerald 60 years to the day before publication of this book.

The book is of 218 pages and is arranged in portrait format.  It is bound in an illustrated binding case measuring 270 x 220 mm.  There are 160 colour images and 159 monochrome images.
